Princess Anne resident looking for solutions to drainage issues
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Somerset Landing residents said enough is enough.
With drainage issues causing headaches for homeowners, resident, Cynthia Perry, said it’s time to bring families and officials together at a community meeting, to discuss a remedy to the situation.
“The situation has come to the point where, with all of the area in the community now being developed, anytime we have a major rain issue, whether it be 4 or 5 inches at a time or a major hurricane, the water doesn’t drain,” Perry said.
After rainfall, man-made ditches are supposed to flow built up water to the Manokin River.
But because of thick vegetation spreading roots and filling into the valleys, the water pools up, sometimes even creeping into people’s back yards.
With so many homes being affected by the water, Perry said it’s time for all parties to brainstorm solutions, before this problem negatively impacts the longevity of the community.
“If nothing is done, then the continued flooding and the way it makes the properties appear, our home values are going to go down,” Perry said.
