Pittsville awarded grant funding for water treatment plant improvements

PITTSVILLE, Md. – This week the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development announced nearly $5 million in grants across the eastern shore.

Among the recipients of the Community Development Block Grant is the Town of Pittsville, who will be receiving $800,000 for towards improvements at their water treatment plant.
According to town officials, this funding, in combination with other grants from the Maryland Department of the Environment, will have Pittsville paying just 15% of the project’s $2.7 million

“It’s going to extend the life of this plant here, almost a brand new plant from 10 to 20 years, which is going to be a tremendous savings to the people here in Pittsville,” said Town Manager Joe Mangini.

This comes after an accident in 2019 at Pittsville’s water treatment plant that resulted in discolored water with high levels of iron in residents’ water.
