MARYLAND – If you need work, you may be in luck, the jobs may be coming to you. A local shelter is finding ways to bring the work world to those who aren’t able to get to job sites on their own.

The HALO Shelter, or Hope and Life Outreach, has been serving the unhoused community since 2007. They offer recovery programs, provide meals, offer shelter, and give away clothing. Twice a month, the shelter hosts a Mobile Workforce Unit, that not only helps match people up with jobs, but they also help individuals obtain new Birth Certificates and documents they need to secure employment.

Brhe Meece is the Resource Center Coordinator for the shelter. They work closely with the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance- American Job Center and Meece says at HALO they strive daily to give everyone what they need and provide a safe space and a step in the right direction.

She says this unit is the next step towards success. “This is a great resource for the community. To be able to go out and speak to someone who has that connection who can put them into internships and school, and jobs… You know, I once was a guest here, and I found myself in need, this place gave me the resources and everything that I needed, to take my step forward and now I get to reach out and help people do the same.”

The American Jobs Center Mobile Unit will be at Ocean Pines Library tomorrow from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm, and at the same time Friday, August 16th at Snow Hill Library. To find their monthly calendar visit the Lowe Shore Workforce Alliance website. www.lswa.org/mobile-unit/. They say donations are always welcome, and they look forward to serving the community.
