White Marlin Open

MARYLAND – While the Marlin Fest for spectators ended today, The White Marlin Open continues and is very successful according to organizers.

The fishing continues, and a 77 1/2-pound White Marlin is in the lead and is worth about $4.2 million. They have also seen Blue Marlins, and a Tuna making their total purse over $8.5 million, and just today they had almost 200 boats leave the docks.

Tournament Director Madelyne Motsko said they ended the Marlin Fest at the inlet due to inclement weather, but overall, the Marlin Open has had an amazing turnout. “You know, we were contending with, and still are contending with tropical storm Debbie, which created some rough seas offshore, which definitely impacted participation a bit this year, but we are thrilled to have 318 boats and $8.5 million in prize money.”

The White Marlin Open will continue until through August 10th where fishing can take place from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. On Sunday, August 11th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, they will have their awards ceremony at the Ocean City Convention Center.
