LAUREL, Del. – Laurel Police say they arrested a juvenile and a Laurel woman following a shooting investigation late Wednesday night.

The incident happened just after 10 p.m., in the area of the Hollybrook Apartments. As officers were responding, additional 911 calls came in reporting a person shot in the Carvel Gardens Apartments. Descriptions of two vehicles seen leaving the area were obtained and relayed to police.

Multiple Laurel officers and Delaware State Police troopers responded, and an officer saw a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description at the intersection of Grazing Court and Discount Land Road. The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle, occupied by two adults and two juveniles, and detained all occupants.

Officers reportedly found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound in Carvel Gardens and determined that the shooting took place on Pasture Lane in Hollybrook Apartments. While securing both scenes, officers were able to confirm that the vehicle stopped on Discount Land Road was the suspect vehicle and that the alleged shooter was a passenger in the vehicle.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Due to the involvement of multiple locations, the Seaford and Blades Police Departments both dispatched officers to help with securing the scenes.

The suspected shooter was identified as a 17-year-old male from Bridgeville. He was charged with second degree assault, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and aggravated menacing. He was held at the Stevenson House Juvenile Detention Center on a $12,000 secured bail.

During the traffic stop, police say the driver, identified as 38-year-old Chantel Parker, showed signs of alcohol impairment. A subsequent DUI investigation led to Parker’s arrest for third offense DUI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was committed on an intoxication hold.
