ELLENDALE, Del. – Funeral arrangements have been announced for Thomas Berry III, who died Tuesday afternoon from injuries sustained while assisting with a crash in Georgetown.

Berry was an 8-year member of the Ellendale Fire Company and joined as a junior member at the age of 15. He was a fourth generation Ellendale firefighter, having grown up in the Ellendale Firehouse, counting down the years and months left until he could join and be a firefighter.

Berry stopped to help the drivers involved in a crash on Lewes-Georgetown Highway at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. While he was helping one of the drivers, a utility pole reportedly snapped, bringing down the wires. Berry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Services will be held at Crossroad Community Church at 20684 State Forest Road in Georgetown on Thursday, August 22nd. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., with services to follow.
