First responders meet and greet for family members on the spectrum
SALISBURY, Md. – The Lower Shore Autism Community will be hosting a meet and greet with local first responders.
The event will have firetrucks, police cars, and K-9 units for families to interact with. There will also be resources to help loved ones with autism.
Lower Shore Autism Community President Clay Belgie said events like these are crucial because, in a crisis, communication between first responders and those on the spectrum can be difficult: “It’s a good day for two-way communication. Of course, the kids love it, but also the first responders learn a little bit about autism, what autism is all about, and how to respond.”
The meet and greet will take place from 1pm-3pm on September 15th, at Winterplace Park in Salisbury.
