Emerging Leader: Dr. Don Blackburn
WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader!
Dr. Don Blackburn is an optometrist and the clinical director for the Special Olympics of Delaware’s opening eyes program.
Dr. Blackburn recently received the 2024 Golisano Health Leadership Award which is a national award that honors those dedicated to ensuring health care is inclusive and accessible.
We’re told he’s worked with the Special Olympics for over 20 years, giving athletes with disabilities their eye exams, prescriptions, and more.
Dr. Blackburn tells us he doesn’t want all the recognition to go to just him.
He says there’s multiple people that played a part in making the program successful.
Dr. Blackburn says he truly enjoys helping others and his number one goal in his career is to be a good steward.
He says he hopes he can find someone he can mentor and pass his knowledge down to.
Blackburn tells us it was his own mentors that guided him to us his gifts to help others.
