Emerging Leader: Brittany Williams

WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader!

Brittany Williams is the founder of The Black Girl Health Collective, an organization dedicated to educating under-represented communities by providing resources and creating safe spaces.

This morning, Brittany stopped by to tell us more about her organization and what sparked the idea.

She tells us the organization was started in 2021 as a way to connect women of color in the community, but it has since transformed into a national organization that encourages women to speak up about their experiences.

Brittany says she focuses on the importance of healthcare and wellness because there’s a lot of disparities in these areas for black women.

An example is the black maternal mortality rate, a hot topic at the moment.

The Black Girl Health Collective brings both providers and women together to discuss these concerns.

She says what inspired her to start the non-profit is her own experience with lack of access to care.

Williams tells us that in Kent County the ratio for providers is almost double the recommended case load, so she says we need to find other pathways for people to access care.
