Easton man charged with illegal possession of a firearm following shooting investigation

EASTON, Md. – An Easton man has been arrested on charges stemming from a shooting last month.

Shortly after 5 p.m. July 7th, officers were called to the area of Pleasant Alley and Blake Street for a reported shooting. During the investigation, it was determined that 41-year-old Dennis Ayers Jr. and other individuals were possibly in possession of firearms. Detectives were able to obtain search and seizure warrants for Ayers’ residence, as well as a second residence.

On Thursday, detectives were assisted by the Easton Police and Talbot County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Unit (SWAT Team) in executing the warrant at Ayres’ residence, leading to the recovery of a loaded handgun. Evidence was also recovered that connected Ayers to the possession of the firearm.

Ayres was subsequently arrested and charged with firearm possession – crime of violence/felony conviction, regulated firearm: illegal possession, CDS – possession of firearms, and two counts of illegal possession of ammunition. He was later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
