Discover Delmarva: Pocomoke River Canoe Company
SNOW HILL, Md,-Located right off River Street in downtown Snow Hill is The Pocomoke River Canoe Company.
Nestled inside an old lumber warehouse they have an ideal spot along the Pocomoke River to launch visitors onto the waters
Ron Piling an employee at the company took WMDT upriver to one of their most popular launching spots Porter’s Crossing Bridge. This location is one of their most popular pre-planned trips. With drop off service to the launch location. With endless plant life and wildlife along your journey with no mosquitoes! With no mosquitoes due to the high tannin levels in the water from the Bald Cypress trees
This is one of the many unique aspects of this storied river
Ron Piling an employee at the company gave us some insight on the currents along the Pocomoke “It’s a very gentle and placid river. There’s almost no current here.” With minimal current, this is a great spot for beginners and people of all ages to get paddling! All of their kayaks are chosen for their safety and stability.
Co-owner Barry Laws tells me there’s something here that you won’t find anywhere else while adventuring along the river “I think the outdoors of what’s up here is just different. You’re not riding or paddling through a community with houses and all. you’re coming down the river in the woods.” The shoreline is well protected and keeps a wild feel throughout your travels in your vessel.
They were kind enough to take WMDT out on the water and give us a first-hand experience of the river. They highly suggest beginners to launch from the shop before venturing too far out. Whether it’s Kayaking, Canoeing, or paddle boarding. There are plenty of ways to explore the river.
The company says they welcome large groups, and people of all ages onto the waters. They’re open seven days a week weather permitting. They offer lots of different pre-planned trips or rental opportunities. For more information visit their website.
