Charles Dean and Bloodsworth Island, a story about family lineage and legacy

BLOODSWORTH, ISLAND – The burial site to many Dorchester County ancestors, and now Charles Dean is looking to find out about his family legacy.

The Preston resident traced his roots all the way back to the 1600s where several members of his family were killed off of mainland Dorchester.

With special permission from Pax River, and Congressman Andy Harris, the U.S. Navy was escorted by boat to find out their true ancestry.

“This is a top 5 highlight in terms of my entire life, this is something few people get to do.” Said Dean.

Bloodsworth Island is closed off to the public, due to the history on the island, at one point the island was used by the Navy as a bombing range and ammunition storage space for World War 2. Dean, was really happy about the opportunity and is excited for more, “But in the future, there will be other Bloodsworth’s documented and confirmed where they were buried on this island, and that will solve some family mysteries for us, so the story is not quite over, hopefully this is just the beginning.”
