Celebrating Jeremiah Shaw: the Cambridge community comes together for a special birthday
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Monday evening, the Cambridge Fire Rescue Company, along with a number of other departments, helped to celebrate a very special birthday in a big way.
Crowds of locals, and a parade of dozens of firetrucks, police cars, emergency vehicles, motorcycles, and more, all came out to celebrate Jeremiah Shaw’s birthday.
Monday was Jeremiah’s 10th birthday. Ever since he was 2 years old, he has battled Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, a disorder that leads to all kinds of seizures.
Jeremiah was also recently diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease.
With all the hardship that he and his family have faced, his mother, Maschell Hines spoke about what it meant to see that kind of support from the community: “He likes ambulances, fire trucks, motorcycles, dump trucks, all of that. So I was able to reach out, and they spread the word, and it blew up like crazy. It was it was really nice. I was so thankful.”
Maschell said documenting events like this are so important for their family: “Pictures are very important for him, because maybe he’ll remember it for the rest of the day, but by tomorrow he won’t. But for that moment, it means everything in the world to him.”
