2024 HS Football Preview: Cape Henlopen Vikings
LEWES, De. – The Cape Henlopen Vikings are hoping to make another long playoff run this fall.
One of the big issues for this year’s team will be replacing Maurki James, the all-state running back and Old Dominion Monarchs commit. Cape is looking at rolling with a running back by committee this season as they have several players who have proven themselves with coaches saying they will roll with the hot hand.
Vikings Head Coach Mike Frederick says the team has been dealing with some injuries, combine that with the loss of 13 seniors and we will see a lot more younger and inexperienced players on the field for the Vikings at least early on.
“We’ve got five backs that are going to have to make up for Maurki. I think we have some good ones. Inexperienced again, we got a senior that backed him up last year who will get his opportunity, they would have played a lot more if we didn’t have Maurki, they’re talented. So we got five, and we’ll run with the hot hand and our guy jaden messick who will be a senior had a great off season, the best off season he’s had since he’s been with us in the three years he’s been here. So I think he’s ready to go,” said Head Coach Mike Frederick.
