Blood Bank of Delmarva urges public to donate blood ahead of holiday

DELMARVA – The Blood Bank of Delmarva is in need of donations ahead of the upcoming holiday weekend.

With Labor Day approaching, the blood bank says it often sees a lull in donations around the holidays, especially towards the end of summer with families busy sending their kids back to school.

They’re urging the public to keep donations at the front of their minds because the demand for live-saving blood never takes a holiday.

“It’s an important and integral part of the health care system. We supply all 19 hospitals in the Delmarva Peninsula with the blood and blood products they need for patients who are critically ill or who have scheduled surgeries, whatever their case is,” said Tony Prado, with the Blood Bank of Delmarva.

As an incentive to encourage people to come out, starting Wednesday, August 28th until Wednesday, September 4th, those who donate will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a $3,000 Target gift card.
