2024 HS Football Preview: Bennett Clippers

SALISBURY, Md. – The Bennett Clippers are trending upwards. They finished the season last year 3-7 but return most of the skill position players that helped them improve from a winless season two years ago.
Quarterback Liam Nelson was the starter for the second half of last year and now the junior will try to lead his team to their first winning season since 2018.
He’ll have some of the best weapons in the Bayside Conference headlined by Senior Wide Receiver and Safety Zakai Smullen.
“Zakai fills a big role for us offensively and defensively. I think he’s one of the most explosive athletes in the bayside. Jackson Moore is a returning four-year starter for us on the offensive line. He’s like having a young coach on the line. Myles Jarmon is another senior explosive payer for us, defensive back and receiver. We expect big things out of Liam Nelson this year,” Bennett Head Football Coach Greg Lasinski says.
Lasinski adds the focus of the team right now is in the trenches, getting his almost completely new offensive line ready for primetime.
“If the line is not going to block, the quarterback can’t throw, running backs can’t run, and receivers can’t catch. Nothing else happens without the offensive line so obviously it’s important that those guys are out on the field and in the classroom, learning what they need to do and they’re working on that process right now,” he says.
