2024 Football Preview: Sussex Central Golden Knights
GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Sussex Central Golden Knights face the pressure of following up on their great 2023 regular season. They were one of the best overall football teams in Delaware last year finishing the season 8-4 before losing to Cape Henlopen 46-14 in the 3A State Semifinals.
In 2023 they had big wins over Laurel, Cape Henlopen, Dover, and Appoqunimink but once they ran into the Vikings for a rematch in the playoffs, things fell apart for Sussex Central’s dreams of adding another state championship to their tally.
But most of the Golden Knight’s ground game, including All-State First Teamer Malik Bell, All-State Second Teamer William Harmon, and Jajuan Sturgis return from last year.
They will be led under center by a new quarterback Bradley Chavez and there is a lot of optimism in Georgetown this summer.
They say they have all the motivation in the world to erase last year’s early exit with a deep run in 2024.
“Our motivation is just for all of our guys they pick us up every day. We’re playing for our guys in the past. Losing in the semis hits home. We’re coming for it, that’s all I can say,” Sturgis says.
“We lost to Cape, that hurt and we’re coming. I don’t like losing to Cape at all,” Bell says.
