Wor-Wic encourages student success through new program

MARYLAND. – Thanks to a new initiative set forth by Governor Wes Moore and the Maryland Higher Education Commission, Wor-Wic Community College will be one of three pioneer institutions working to reduce inequalities in college completion.

The Expanding SUCCESS program encourages academic success through monetary incentives.
Director of advising at Wor-Wic, Paul Fields, said the more students stay on top of their education, the more money they’ll get.

“Students will be able to receive multiple incentives throughout each semester, for doing things like checking in with their coach and confirming that they’re still enrolled full time students, and they will receive incentive money, up to $550, for that particular semester,” Fields said.

With Wor-Wic playing guinea pig to this plan this fall semester, Fields said it’s all a learning experience for the institution and the state

“We’re going to see what works, what doesn’t work, and going into the spring semester, we’ll figure out ways that we can improve the program, that could be students applying to the program maybe some type of recommendation processes,” Fields said.
