Weather Tidbits: Temperature vs Energy Use

This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing the relationship between temperature and energy use in one’s household. Known uses of energy include the dishwasher, television, oven, lights, the dryer, fridge, and water heat along with other appliances. All those together use roughly half of the total energy. The other half is used for heating and cooling systems. This means that heating and cooling take up a large chunk of the total energy consumption. Thus, the total energy consumption of a household is highest during large temperature extremes, either hot or cold. Resulting in what is likely a higher electricity bill during the summer and winter months.
