Two dead in late-night Lewes crash
LEWES, Del. – An investigation is underway following a crash that claimed the lives of two people in Lewes Monday night.
Just before 11:30 p.m., police say a BMW 328 was driving eastbound near the 16000 block of Gills Neck Road at an apparent high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the vehicle reportedly left the road as it approached a sharp curve in the roadway, continuing onto a residential property where it hit a wall/pillar, tree, and metal fence. The BMW then caught on fire, spreading to the house and causing extensive damage.
The occupants of the home were able to escape and were not injured.
The driver and passenger of the BMW were both pronounced dead at the scene.
