Traffic stop leads to felony firearm arrest

LAUREL, DEL – On July 7th around 9:27pm, a Laurel Police Department officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a black Audi A4 in the Carvel Gardens Apartment Complex. The officer stopped the vehicle for a registration violation.

The officer made contact with the driver, who refused to provide a driver’s license, registration, or insurance for the vehicle. The driver was eventually identified as Michael N Sylvester a 29-year-old of Laurel, DE. Additional checks of the driver’s license and registration status revealed he had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle was found to be unregistered and uninsured.
During the course of the investigation, the driver was found to be concealing a loaded firearm in his waistband and did not have a valid concealed carry permit for the weapon. He was subsequently placed under arrest and the vehicle was impounded.
Sylvester was transported to the Laurel Police Department for processing, where she was charged with the following crimes:
-Concealed Carry Deadly Weapon A Firearm (Class D Felony)
-Driving While Suspended/Revoked (Misdemeanor)
-Failure to Have Required Insurance (Misdemeanor)
-Fictitious/Cancelled Registration (Violation)
-Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle (Violation)
He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 7, and released on $5,202 unsecured bail.
