Tech expert gives tips to protect data amid Microsoft Windows outage
DELMARVA. – Data is on a lot of people’s minds, as folks anxiously watch live updates on the Microsoft Windows global outage.
But while there hasn’t been a data breach, IMPACT Technology Group marketing manager, Tara Diskin, said on a smaller scale, there are things you can do at home to ensure your information stays safe.
“The number one cause of data breaches is unfortunately the person sitting behind the computer,” Diskin said. “Get your team trained on what to look for. Look for those red flags, and that way they don’t invite someone into their own network.”
If you own a business, customers are relying on you to not lose their important information. That’s why Diskin said working with a technology group to assess your business needs can be beneficial.
“For businesses, I would highly suggest working with a technology expert, such as IMPACT. A lot of people host Quick Books on their server or their workstation, and moving to the cloud might be a better option, and that is something that we’re highly trained in doing,” Diskin said.
And while business giants have recently been in the news for data breaches, Diskin said hackers have to start somewhere, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry
“Hackers are smart, but some of the ones that are starting out are going to look for those smaller targets to get their feet wet. Even in your personal email, I would suggest two factor authentication,” Diskin said.
