Salisbury woman arrested for DUI after crashing into house, police car
SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury woman is facing DUI and other charges following a crash Thursday evening.
At around 5:15 p.m., Wicomico County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 500 block of Swan Road for a report of a vehicle hitting a house. The caller reported that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the suspect vehicle, a 2019 Chevy Equinox, fleeing from the scene with heavy front-end damage. Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled and led police on a short chase. Deputies were eventually able to stop the car, at which point the driver and sole occupant, 23-year-old Karli Church, allegedly rammed a Sheriff’s Office cruiser and ran over a curb to escape. Church continued to drive recklessly and ignored traffic laws while deputies chased her to the Route 50 Bypass, where she lost control and hit a guardrail. Church continued fleeing and left the Bypass, heading back towards Salisbury. Deputies stopped the vehicle again on Adventist Drive at West Road, where Church was taken into custody.
Church was taken to TidalHealth and released early Friday morning, at which time she was arrested and charged with DUI, three counts of failure to stop after an accident, two counts of eluding uniformed police, reckless driving, negligent driving, and numerous additional traffic charges. She was later released on her own recognizance pending trial.
