Salisbury Fire Department host summer camp
Junior Fire Academuy
MARYLAND – Summer is hot and so are the summer camps. The Salisbury Fire Department is hosting its Junior Fire Academy this week.
Students will be allowed to attend a free camp from 8 am to 3:30 pm with a free meal, games, and life-saving tips. Lt. Zachary Bridges is an instructor and says the goal is to potentially encourage students to choose first-respondent careers. He says this is the second Annual Fire Camp the department is hosting. Students aged 7-11 registered for this session, and Lt. Bridges says Firefighters do more than put out fires.
“Today they’re doing the rescue training, the crew that is working today is going to put fire gear on,” says Bridges, ” and they’re going to simulate cutting up a car involved in an accident, and the person was trapped. So, they get to see how powerful these tools are Most of the time, these kids think we just fight fires- but I try to explain to them today, that we do a plethora more of emergency services.”
The Department says they have a session for older students 12 and up in August, and although that session registration is now closed, the department says they are looking forward to the potential attendees next year and hopes the community signs up.
