Public safety at the forefront here in Delmarva

DELMARVA – Public safety has been in the news since, the unfortunate events in Butler Pennsylvania, with the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump. With the rise in Mass shootings and violent crimes happening during large gatherings across the nation.

However, Delmarva officials do have safety nets in place, to make sure people can have a safe time in large groups. Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce President Bill Chambers said they have extensive procedures for all events, “The venues that we use for events, all have those kinds of procedures in place covered, we don’t use venues that are not up to code, not in areas where there’s not adequate egress.” said Chambers.

Millsboro Police Lieutenant David Moyer spoke with me as well, and he said, he trains his officers for any emergency scenario no matter the location. “We may not be able to educate the public in say the 4th of July event of evacuation routes or whatnot, but officers assigned to each location know how to address their particular population,” said Moyer.

Lt. Moyer also said everyone must train themselves to be observant for the sake of the entire community if tragedy strikes, “I think one thing we can learn from this situation is that we need to stay vigilant, we need to stay alert, and we need to stay focused on protecting our community,” said Moyer.

Chambers told me people, who not only attend large-scale events but also those who are just out in public, should always be aware of their surroundings.

“If you see something say something, I think that’s the best measure any citizen can take, whether it’s shopping at the local grocery store, the movie theater, or attending a sporting event or any other large-scale event,” said Chambers.
