President Biden drops out of 2024 race, endorses Vice President Harris
SALISBURY, Md. – Sunday afternoon President Joe Biden announced he will not be seeking reelection in the 2024 presidential race. President Biden made the announcement on X, formerly known as twitter. In his letter, the President said in part: “While it has been my intention to seek reelection – I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Following his letter, President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the potential Democratic nominee in the 2024 Presidential Election: “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
Reacting to President Biden’s announcement, Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md) released a statement, saying in part, “President Biden has always put our country first, and in making this decision, he has once again done what he thinks is best for the future of our democracy. His legacy will set an example of what we can accomplish on behalf of everyday Americans for generations to come. There’s still more work to be done – and I know the President is committed to seeing it through.”
