Maryland State Department of Education offering free summer meals to youth
MARYLAND – The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is offering free meals across the state to youth under the age of 18.
Kids will be able to get meals at nearly 800 sites across Maryland with some locations offering to-go meals. Officials say that this to-go option was very successful during the pandemic and is crucial for supporting children and families in rural areas with over 500,000 kids in Maryland eligible for free meals.
“So it’s an important program to help ensure that there’s continuous access to healthy, nutritious meals for students and other children of the state of Maryland,” said Julie Fletcher, MSDE School and Community Nutrition Program Executive Director.
No registration or identification is required to receive the meals, but some locations might need registration for planning purposes.
