Mardela man convicted of sexually abusing a minor

SALISBURY, Md. – A Mardela Springs man has pleaded guilty to sex abuse of a minor.

On Monday, a jury was empaneled for the trial of 37-year-old Corey Sparks, and opening statements were delivered. The following morning, Sparks reportedly entered the guilty plea to sex abuse of a minor and two counts of third degree sex offense, prior to testimony and evidence being presented before the jury.

The charges stem from an investigation that revealed that between 2020 and 2021, Sparks sexually abused a minor child under the age of 13.

Sentencing was deferred pending a mandatory pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment. Sparks will remain in custody pending sentencing, and he will be required to register as a Tier III Sexual Offender for life and will be subject to lifetime sexual offender supervision.
