Lewes man arrested for thefts from vehicles
LEWES, Del. – A Lewes man has been arrested for multiple recent felony thefts from vehicles.
Between July 8th and 17th, Delaware State Police investigated multiple thefts and trespassing of a similar nature in the Angola and Lewes area, learning that in each of the incidents, a man trespassed onto residential properties and stole money and property from unlocked vehicles. The suspect was identified as 31-year-old William Rodenbaugh, whom troopers were familiar with as part of an ongoing investigation of thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles, also in the Lewes area.
At around 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, a trooper on patrol in the Henlopen Landing neighborhood saw a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and carrying a backpack, walking through the neighborhood. The trooper recognized the man as Rodenbaugh, who reportedly ran away from the trooper initially. Rodenbaugh was taken into custody following a short foot chase.
He was held at SCI on a $1,500 secured bond on five counts of theft under $1500 where victim is over 62, third degree burglary, nine counts of theft under $1500, 12 counts of second degree criminal trespass, third degree criminal trespass, and resisting arrest.
