Law enforcement warn public amid uptick in scam calls

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a recent scam.
There’s a scammer calling Worcester County residents and telling them they’ve missed jury duty and have an outstanding warrant. The scammer also tells people they can avoid an arrest by paying restitution for the warrant.
Worcester County Sheriff, Matt Crisafulli, said it’s imperative that community members avoid taking these calls.
“Law enforcement will never call you telling you that you owe money, and you can pay over the phone. That’s a red flag right there; that’s a scam,” Sheriff Crisafulli said.
