Laurel School Superintendent reinstated following DUI charges
LAUREL, Del. – The Laurel School District has reinstated Superintendent Dr. Shawn Larrimore. He stepped away from his duties following a DUI arrest in May. The Board of Education says they have thoroughly reviewed the situation and believe in Dr. Larrimore’s dedication to personal and professional development. They say during his absence he has taken time to reflect, grow and take important steps to ensure he meets the expectations of the Board and the community as a whole. The reinstatement will be effective July 8, 2024.
The Board of Education released a statement saying in part, “We are confident in his ability to lead our district with integrity and commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community. We appreciate the community’s understanding and support during this time and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to achieve our shared goals for the Laurel School District.”
Shortly after the incident, the School District said disciplinary consequences imposed by the Laurel Board of Education on Dr. Larrimore would not be disclosed publicly per their human resources protocol.
Following a traffic stop in May, Larrimore was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to move over/slow down for stopped vehicle displaying warning signal, failure to signal continuously before turning, failure to remain within a single lane, and expired registration.
