Good Morning Delmarva discusses UMES hosting the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

WMDT – The iconic Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is bringing a mix of classic and modern music to UMES tomorrow, July 18th.

Allison Burr-Livingstone, the senior vice president for the Orchestra and Jeremy Buckler, a musician in the orchestra, tells us they are Maryland’s largest arts organization.

They started touring to make sure all parts of Maryland get a chance to hear their performances live.

Their goal over the years has been to travel to all 23 counties in Maryland and this summer they will be traveling to 8 different venues, but UMES is special because it’s the 1st HBCU to host them!

Another unique thing about this event is that there will be a Trombone as the featured solo which is fitting for the university’s Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center.

Bulter says this show is different from their usual winter concerts.

You can expect to see more lighthearted pieces that are shorter in length.

There’s even a tiny bit of Jazz.

We also got the chance to speak with Victor Hsia, a professor of pharmaceutical sciences at UMES, who says this is a big honor for them as it will be bringing music back to campus.

This is a pay as you wish concert, so don’t miss out on what could be either free or a perfect chance to support the arts.

Again, it will be tomorrow at 7pm at the Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
