Exploring American History Through Art On July 4th

DOVER, Del. – While people flocked to the streets of downtown Dover for food and fireworks, they also had the chance to learn about and appreciate historic art from the area.

The Biggs Museum of American Art had free admission for the 4th of July.

The museum’s collection stretches from the 1700s all the way to contemporary artists, giving visitors the chance to learn about artists that have made contributions throughout the history of the United States.

“You really get the chance as you look around the collection, to learn about Delawarean makers, Philadelphia makers, pretty much makers in the mid-Atlantic region, to really get a better sense of why, here in the Biggs Museum, it’s important to be open on 4th of July,” said Kiara Lopez, Head of Visitor Experience and Membership Services.

The Biggs Museum also hosts a family creative studio from 11am until 2pm on Saturdays, with different crafts and activities for kids and parents every weekend.
