Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell begins 4-year term as Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools
SOMERSET COUNTY, MD – Somerset County Public Schools appointed Superintendent Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell as the new Superintendent. Dr. Mitchell is set to began a four-year term; assuming office on July 1st, 2024. Dr. Mitchell was also the former Instructional Director and Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Prince George’s County Public Schools.
In an excerpt from her opening letter, Tasker-Mitchell affirms, “I am committed to and I look forward to working closely with the Somerset school community to uphold the mission of Somerset County Public Schools. Together, we will celebrate our accomplishments, address challenges with resilience, and create a positive and nurturing educational environment where every student feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.”
The new Superintendent will announce future plans to host a series of Listening and Learning sessions across Somerset County in all 8 schools in the fall. The sessions will be open to the community with the purpose of gathering feedback for the development of the Superintendent’s Strategic Plan for SCPS.
