Dover PD warns against using popular toy in public

DOVER, Del. – Dover police warned youth against toting Orbeez guns in public.

The toy gun shoots gel beads that expand in water and have become popular amongst kids. Police warned the toys can easily be mistaken for a real firearm.

Dover PD Public Information Officer, Ryan Schmid, said having these guns out in public, especially in crowded areas, can make it harder for the police officers to do their jobs.

“If someone’s walking around with one of these guns and using it in a manner that it’s not intended to be used, downtown, or even anywhere in the city or in the state, and it’s causing alarm to people, then it’s taking away resources from people that may actually need police assistance,” Schmid said.

Schmid said Orbeez guns have also been involved in drive-by style incidents.
