UPDATE: One dead in Easton plane crash
2:25 p.m. UPDATE: Maryland State Police say Tuesday’s plane crash in Easton was fatal.
Just after 9:30 a.m., troopers were called to the 6800 block of Travelers Rest Circle for a reported small plane crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that a twin-engine Cessna took off shortly before 9 a.m. from Tipton Airport at Fort Meade before crashing into the Tred Avon River. Police say they believe the plane was headed towards Easton Airport when it crashed.
Divers from Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the scene and recovered the victim, whose identity is pending notification of next of kin. The victim was declared dead at the scene and will be taken to the Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Divers were assisted by the Natural Resources Police Underwater Operations Team and other marine assets from Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, and Talbot Counties. Maryland Natural Resources Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, and Talbot County Fire/EMS crews responded to the scene with Maryland State Police. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have also be notified.

EASTON, Md. – Emergency responders are currently at the scene of a reported plane crash in Easton.
The FAA released the following statement regarding the crash:
“A twin-engine Cessna 402 crashed into the water near Easton, Maryland around 9:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday, July 16, after the pilot reported engine failure. Only the pilot was on board. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide further updates.”
There is no word on the pilot’s condition at this time.
