Coast Guard suspends search for missing mariner near Deal Island
DEAL ISLAND, Md. – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing mariner who fell overboard off a commercial fishing boat near Deal Island on Tuesday.
We’re told responders searched over 70 square nautical miles over the course of 11.5 hours with no signs of the mariner. The active search, which began at around 8:30 a.m., was suspended at 6:51 p.m.
“Our hearts are with the missing mariner’s family and friends,” said Cmdr. Roberto Concepcion, chief of response, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Maryland – National Capital Region. “Our crews worked closely with our local and state partners throughout the day but there has been no sign of him and the case has been suspended pending further information.”
