Carl Anderton takes on new state role, plans to boost rural economies

MARYLAND. – Former Maryland Delegate, Carl Anderton, is just not ready to leave the Eastern Shore yet.

Following the recent announcement of his promotion to Director of Rural Economic Strategy for the state, he said he’s here on Delmarva to stay, and he’s going to apply the skills from his old position to his new one.

“When we’re in Westen Maryland, if they’re doing things out there that are working, I can bring those ideas back home and vice versa,” Anderton said.

“If there’s things that we’re doing well here, especially when it comes to tourism, we can take things from Ocean City,” Anderton added.

The new role was established to help bolster rural economies across Maryland.
Anderton said he’s prepared to hit the ground running to tackle various projects on the shore.

“There’s a list of things I wanted to do as delegate that I couldn’t do as delegate, that we can do now,” Anderton said. “Having that direct line to the administration, instead of knocking on the door hoping you get let, in we’re inside now.”

And with Anderton leaving almost halfway through his term, Wicomico County Executive, Julie Giordano, said it will be up to Governor Wes Moore to appoint a new delegate.

“People will apply and it will actually go through the Republican Central Committee. They will send 3 names up to the Governor and the Governor will choose who will be delegate Anderton’s replacement for these two years,” Giordano said.
