Car chase leads to nearly 30 charges for Cambridge man

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Cambridge man was arrested earlier this week on charges stemming from a vehicle chase.

During the late morning hours of July 1st, Cambridge Police officers stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation in the area Fairmount Avenue and High Street, and when the driver came to a stop, he reportedly got out of the vehicle. Officers ordered the driver to return to the vehicle, and when he did he fled at a high rate of speed, through multiple streets in complete disregard for safety. The suspect vehicle reportedly swerved at a police patrol vehicle, causing the officer to have to make evasive maneuvers to avoid being hit.

The vehicle then turned down the 400 block of Charles Street, where the vehicle ended up hitting a house on Charles and Skinners Court, as the vehicle tried to travel between houses. The driver then fled on foot.

Further investigation led police to identify the suspect as 27-year-old Keizye Collins, who was found to have a suspended and revoked license. Collins later allegedly contacted Cambridge Police to report his vehicle as being stolen. Collins was asked to come to the police department to speak with officers, but he refused to do so. An arrest warrant was issued for Collins, who was taken into custody during the afternoon hours of July 8th. He was charged with first and second degree assault, false statement to officer, driving on a suspended license, driving on a revoked license, driving without a license, and numerous traffic offenses, totaling 29 charges.

Collins was held without bond.
