Breed Sheep Show draws attention at Delaware State Fair

DELAWARE –  While some people may count sheep to sleep, participants at the Delaware State Fair count sheep to show off! The Breed Sheep shows at the Fair had many come from all over to show off their precious stock.

Jennifer Bernard who works in the Dover building, came as an exhibitor today. She says many people take it very seriously, and Breed sheep shows have a lot to do with appearance and genetics.”So wool is about what the wool looks like and how clean they are, and the meat breed is about loin length and leg length… We want to raise the best that we can raise.”

This show was open to juniors, which makes this all the more exciting according to Jennifer. 16-year-old Ava Gallo says this was something that just runs in her family, and connections are key. “So, I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps showing sheep, and it’s just something that I’ve learned to enjoy doing and I find that it’s a good connection with many of the people that I’ve met.”

Organizers say they can’t wait to do this again next year, and you’re welcome to come and count their sheep, anytime.
