99th annual Chincoteague Pony Swim scheduled for July 24th
CHINCOTEAGUE, Va – On July 24th, the pony swim of Chincoteague comes back for the community to enjoy for the 99th time.
The notable pony race will take place at the carnival grounds at noon, and attendees can take a free shuttle from various hotels, lodging points, and restaurants.
The chamber changed the times of the shuttle from 7 a.m. instead of the original 5 a.m. plan, and the schedule is updated regularly.
Chincoteague Executive Director Evelyn Shotwell said this race is a generational pass time passed down from families to kids. “I mean we have grandparents coming now with their grandchildren, brought the children’s parents here as children, and now they’re all coming in as a family. So, it just continued and brought so much joy to so many people for 99 years,” said Shotwell.
The chamber is hosting a myriad of other events, with the carnival starting Friday, July 19th to Saturday, July 27th.
