Wor-Wic Community College awarded $350k for technology program

SALISBURY, Md – Wor-Wic Community College was awarded a $350,000 Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant from the National Science Foundation.

The 3-year grant will fund Wor-Wic’s Eastern Shore Technician in Electro-Mechanics project, ESTEEM for short. The ESTEEM program provides students practical technical experience and education, with many ready to enter the workforce before they complete their associate’s degree.

Instructors say they are specially designing the program to accommodate students who are already working, or those who have demanding schedules.

“There’s there’s a lot of variables in the occupations that are represented in this program, so we’re trying to look out for those variables and provide the student the opportunity to still have access even though their schedule is unpredictable,” said Joe Roche, department head of applied technologies.

The grant funding from the National Science Foundation will also be used to purchase lab equipment, like learning systems for robotics.
