OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Police arrested a Washington D.C. woman on prostitution charges over the weekend.

The investigation began on Saturday when police received a complaint of prostitution from the management of a midtown hotel. It was quickly determined that the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Katherine Newsome, was actively posting online ads in Ocean City offering “services” for a predetermined fee.

Detectives met with hotel staff, who informed them that they saw Newsome meeting multiple men in the lobby of the hotel and taking them up to her room for short periods. It was also determined that Newsome had been arrested numerous times for prostitution in various states. Detectives found an online ad posted by Newsome offering sex acts for a set fee, and a detective subsequently contacted Newsome in response to the ad and arranged to meet at a nearby bar. Newsome met with the undercover detective at the bar, where they reportedly engaged in a prostitution-related conversation. After they agreed to the terms and the money was exchanged, Newsome was arrested.

Officers found controlled dangerous substances on Newsome’s person, and a search warrant was executed on her hotel room, leading to the recovery of additional controlled dangerous substances such as MDMA, oxycodone, and amphetamine pills. Police also found fake driver’s licenses with Newsome’s photos on them, as well as a loaded handgun magazine and additional ammunition.

Newsome has previously been convicted of a felony. She was held without bond on a list of prostitution and drug related offenses.
