Weather Tidbits: Seasonal Settings For Ceiling Fans

This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing how the direction your ceiling fan can provide either a cooling or warming effect. During the warm months of the year, it is most appropriate for your ceiling fan to spin counterclockwise if you want to cool down. This forces air straight downward, which produces the wind chill effect. This keeps one cool, especially right under the fan. During the colder months of the year, it is most appropriate to have the ceiling fan spin clockwise. This forces the less dense, warmer air trapped high up into the ceiling and pushed along the walls and eventually to the floor. This provides a warming effect.
