UMES STEM educator Brad Hartle teaches groundwater exploration on Good Morning Delmarva
WMDT – UMES STEM Educator Brad Hartle returned to Good Morning Delmarva to demonstrate another kid friendly science experiment.
This time, he explained groundwater exploration using a model of different rocks and soil.
The model Hartle used on Good Morning Delmarva consisted of fine sand, gravel, and clay.
Using dye, they were able to demonstrate how pollutants can slowly spread between wells underground.
Wells are typically used to supply water to homes that are not located in the city and need to be treated to keep pollutants out.
If you are experimenting at home, you can check for permeability which brad says is the space between the soil.
Watch the tutorial to learn how you can replicate this experiment at home with your child this summer.
