TidalHealth Foundation to launch mobile mammogram initiative
SALISBURY, Md – The TidalHealth Foundation’s Mobile Mammography Drive aims to raise $1 million to bring a mobile breast cancer screening unit to Sussex County and the Lower Eastern Shore.
Cancer survivor, Jill Stone, said a mobile breast cancer screening will bring peace of mind to those facing a scary diagnosis.
“What are the chances of survival? What’s going to happen to me? Death is the first thing that pops into your mind. iIt did for me; Am I going to live to see my kids graduate high school?” said Stone.
This 38-foot-long bus will be filled with state-of-the-art mammogram technology. It will connect rural communities with the services. TidalHealth Foundation president, Jessica Hales, said the convenience will make all the difference in establishing preventative care to the community.
“If you have that preventative screening, it could save a family, it could save a life. I think it’s just making it easier for our community to access these screenings” said Hales.
Stone emphasized how some are afraid to get the diagnosis, but that could be put at ease due to the accessibility.
“It’s vital, prevention is key to a cure, you can’t get a cure, if you don’t know you have a diagnosis to be treated. The earlier you get, the better you are of livelihood.” said Stone.
In the next 18 months, the TidalHealth Foundation hopes to get the bus built. The organization has already begun fundraising, collecting about $200,000 out of their goal.
Hales said that donating is still important in making the bus come to fruition, and hopes that the initiative is important to all, instead of only breast cancer survivors.
“This fundraising campaign is for everyone and, and I want to emphasize that every dollar matters.” said Hales.
