The Greater Salisbury Committee improvements initiative set for 2030
The GSC 2030 report is an attempt by the Greater Salisbury Committee to take a critical look at the community and make sure they can provide improvements by the year 2030.
Members of the community presented themselves in a roundtable format, members would bring forth ideas and suggestions to incite change in the next few years. Over 52 distinct topics fell into several different categories, such as economic development, education, and public safety. The GSC’s mission is to identify our region’s challenges and bring forth solutions. Among them, are housing, quality of life, Fire EMS, and childcare.
Housing has suffered tremendously since the great recession in 2008, GSC President Mike Dunn said the crash, set back the area for many years. “The Great Recession occurred back in 08– we have never got back into the housing building game here in the Salisbury Wicomico real estate market,” said Dunn.
Committee Chair Bill McCain said there is so much for Salisbury to offer, to help attract builders to come expand the area. “We have great amenities and Wicomico County, we have a world-class hospital, we have a university, a community college, great public schools. We have minor league baseball, a zoo, I could go on with all the amenities that we have to offer,” said McCain.
