Smyrna man arrested for DUI and felony weapons charges

DEWEY BEACH, De.- A Smryna man was arrested for a DUI and weapons. On the early morning of June 1st Dewey Beach Police saw a black car traveling south on Coastal Highway without headlights.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as 31-year-old Darren Jeffcoat.
During the investigation, police learned that Jeffcoat did not have a license and that he had three outstanding warrants for traffic violations.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a 9mm gun with a fully loaded magazine and one round chamber, and a small amount of marijuana.
Through further investigation, officers learned that Jeffcoat is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Jeffcoat was transported to the Dewey Beach Police Department for processing, where a blood sample was obtained under a search warrant issued by the Justice of the Peace Court # 7.
Jeffcoat is facing two counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, third offense felony DUI, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and failure to have headlights on when required.
