Smyrna High School teacher arrested following criminal investigation

SMYRNA, Del. – A Smyrna High School teacher has been arrested following a criminal investigation that began in February.

We’re told Smyrna Police received a report that 40-year-old Kanika Jackson, a Smyrna HS teacher, was reportedly physically and verbally abusive toward students in class. Jackson was placed on administrative leave, and a thorough investigation was launched. It was learned that on three separate occasions during the school year, Jackson placed her hands on students in a physical manner. In one instance, Jackson allegedly grabbed a student’s hair and pulled it. She also allegedly grabbed a student’s neck and shook them, and in the final incident, she allegedly grabbed a student by the neck and pushed them into a wall.

Jackson was taken into custody at her residence on Wednesday. She was charged with three counts of offensive touching and was released on her own recognizance pending a future court hearing.
