Single-vehicle crash claims the life of woman in Camden

CAMDEN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a car accident that left one woman dead Saturday afternoon.

At roughly 2:30 p.m. Saturday, a 1996 Ford F-150 was travelling West on Westville Road when it failed to remain in its lane around a gradual curve in the area of Probst Lane.

What caused the vehicle to exit its lane is still under investigation.

The Ford struck a mailbox then collided with a guardrail, which it rode for a short distance before falling into a ditch and striking an embankment. The driver was partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle as it flipped onto its left side.

The 45-year-old driver from Smyrna was pronounced dead at the scene. Her information is being withheld pending notification of family.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to call Sergeant A. Mitchell at 302-698-8518.
